Fairy-Themed Birthday Party

Decorating and Menu Ideas

Fun Ideas to Set the Mood

Form a canopy over the party table using pink and lavender streamers. The streamers should cascade from a bow in the middle (attached to the chandelier or the ceiling) out to the sides of the room. Then, sprinkle glitter on the table, forming a line of fairy tracks that lead up to the birthday cake. You can also sprinkle the cake with edible glitter and top it with a fairy figure, a fairy candle, or another fairy favor to complete the effect.

Tie clusters of shimmery pink, lavender, white, and/or silver balloons to the backs of chairs, near the tea table, or in other spots throughout the party area. Weight some of the balloons with star-shaped or princess crown balloon weights. You can also make your own weights by cutting star shapes out of cardboard, spray painting them white, and rolling them in glitter while the paint is still wet.

Fill the party area with huge tissue paper flowers made using our Tissue Flowers activity instructions. Then, lay a cardboard drawbridge at the door for the children to walk over as they enter the party area. You can also cut large tree, toadstool, and castle shapes out of cardboard, paint them, and then hang them on the walls of the party area. Or, for ease, purchase fairy decorations online.

Enchanted Edibles

Fairy Wand Sandwiches: Have your grocer or baker make yellow-tinted sandwich bread, or use potato bread. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut the bread, and then spread jelly and peanut butter, jelly and cream cheese, or your favorite sandwich filling over each star. Press two stars together to form each sandwich, and then insert a pretzel rod one-quarter of an inch into each for the handle.

Enchanted Princess Punch: Freeze pink-colored ice cubes (a combination of Kool-Aid and cranberry juice works well) before the party. At the party, serve lemon-lime soda or ginger ale, and let each child drop in a "magic" ice cube that will make their drink fit for a princess!

Celestial Sugar Cookies: Serve up a batch of fairy sugar cookies using our Sugar Cut-Out Cookies recipe and a star-shaped cookie cutter.
