If you would like to give prizes, use fun stickers and erasers, or pencils. Fill goodie bags with a small box of 8 crayons, pencils, an eraser, pencil sharpener and a 6 inch ruler.
Construct a time capsule
Here’s a fun way to capture the beginning of the school year and send it home with your guests. Using paper towel cardboard tubes and felt, decorate a mini time capsule! Using a digital camera, snap photos of your party guests (either as a group or as individuals) and print them out, enough so you have one for each guest. Have children write down on a piece of paper what they liked best about this summer and what they are looking forward to this school year. Offer crayons and/or markers so they can draw a picture to go with their entries. You can also have children write down their height and weight, favorite foods and colors, and anything else distinguishing about themselves to include in their capsule. Have the children insert everything into the cardboard tube. Lay two pieces of felt end to end and glue the ends together, overlapping them slightly. Roll the tube up in the felt, gluing in place. Decorate with glue, glitter, and/or puffy fabric paints. Tie the ends with chenille sticks and set aside to dry. Tell children not to open their time capsules until the end of the school year (or later!).
