We had a flower fairy party, and I made very simple lace skirts for the girls and little green elf tunics for the boys. To make the skirts, I took a piece of inexpensive 60" wide lace from the local fabric clearance store. I sewed the salvages together, turned the top edge down and stitched to make a casing for elastic. For the tunics I took robe velour (would not ravel, and is also inexpensive) and cut large loose t-shirts out of them. Just stitch the sides/underarms, and it's done.
We played a CD with "Swan Lake" and other classic music in the background, and had a couple of dance sessions with our fairies...
We had pony beads and elastic out for the guests to make necklaces and bracelets. We also had some 12" dowels, fake flowers, and sparkly pipecleaners -- and the guests could make their own magic wands. (it seemed the favorite thing for both the boys and girls was to wrap the pipecleaners around the dowels).
I also found some neat polished rocks at the local pet store meant for aquariums. We used them for party favors, as neat stones always seem to be a favorite.
We had a regular store-bought cake decorated with flowers for the cake, and hung streamers and flower garlands around the house.
