Harry Potter Party

Party Planning and Supplies

Is your child a Harry Potter fanatic? Our Harry Potter party ideas will have all the magic-loving party guests clamoring for more. Gotta love the magic of wizardry!

Best for

Children aged seven to twelve will have fun at this Harry Potter get-together. Remember, it’s a magical event, so be ready for a wild ride!

Party Planning

For peace of mind, begin planning your Harry Potter birthday bash six to eight weeks in advance. This will allow you time to gather all the supplies that you need, including Harry Potter decorations, gifts, and menu items. Planning ahead also gives your guests time to RSVP and make travel plans, if needed. Don't panic if you find yourself short on time; you can still plan a great party! Planning ahead simply reduces the risk of conflicts with guests' plans and may increase your  Harry Potter party’s attendance.

Want to make your own Harry Potter invitations?  Make copies of your child's favorite Harry Potter picture, cut them out, and and paste them onto construction paper. Then write the invite details. Or, if you’re short on time, purchase personalized or pre-printed  Harry Potter birthday invitations online. We recommend mailing your invitations three to four weeks prior to the party—any sooner and your guests may forget, any later and your guests may already have plans.

To simplify the rest of the party planning process, check out our Party Planning Timeline, and read the paragraphs below for information on selecting Harry Potter decorations, Harry Potter party supplies, Harry Potter party favors, and more for your child's party.

What You’ll Need

If you plan to use paper tableware and Harry Potter party supplies, our Suggested Party Supply List may be quite helpful. Please note that you may not need everything on the list; it is intended only as a guide.

Set the mood for your magical shindig with Harry Potter decorations, including banners, hats, the famous Harry Potter glassesHarry Potter wands, and more. The official Harry Potter colors are green and orange, so select balloons, streamers, and other Harry Potter decorations in these colors. Purchase basic partyware, such as cups, plates, and napkins, with a Harry Potter party theme to bring your magical party to life.

Goodie bags should include Harry Potter favors, including bubbles, magic tricks, galaxy balls, pencils, stickers, and assorted candies. Fill cellophane bags with these goodies and tie with green or orange chenille stems.
