Fun Puppy Party Games to Play
Pin the Tail (or bow) on the Doggy - Blow up an image of your child's favorite cartoon dog. Make 1 tail or bow for each child, and put the children's names on them. Blindfold and turn the children three times before letting them try to pin their bows or tails on the puppy. Give a party prize to the tail or bow that comes the closest.
Drop the Dog Bone into a Dish - Purchase a dog bowl and dog biscuits, or make bone-shaped sugar cookies. Set the bowl on the floor behind a chair. Have the children take turns kneeling on the seat of the chair, facing the chair's back. Give each child 3 bones, and let them try to drop the bones into the dish on the floor.
Puppy, Puppy, Dog - Have the children sit in a circle. The birthday child is "it". As the birthday child walks around the outside of the circle, he or she pats each child on the head while saying, "puppy, puppy, puppy... DOG!" When the birthday child says "DOG", the tagged child jumps up, and both children run around the circle in hopes of being the first to sit down in the vacated spot. The child left standing is "it", and the game continues. Play as many rounds as desired.
Dog Gone Relay - The race is on to see which team can fetch the most items first. Divide the children into two equal teams. Have them form two single-file lines at one end of the room. At the other end, have two piles of things dogs would want to "fetch", including shoes or slippers, bones, balls, toy cars, and stuffed cats. When you say "Go Fetch", the first player on each team runs to the other end of the room and grabs an item. Here's the catch: If they grab a shoe/slipper, they must put it on and run back to their line while wearing it before the next player can proceed. If they pick up the car, they must race it back with its wheels touching the floor. The ball and bone must be carried in the mouth. The cat requires them to say, "meow, meow" all the way back. Lots of fun! First team to get all of their items home wins the race.
Story Time - If you're throwing a character party, have the children gather round while an adult reads the birthday child's favorite Clifford the Big Red Dog, Blue's Clues, or other book.
Treasure Hunt - If you're throwing a Blue's Clues party, make sure you have a Treasure Hunt. You'll want to use these Find Blues Clues! Paw Prints to make it extra special.
"In the Doghouse" Musical Game - The object of this game is not to get caught in the "doghouse" when the music stops…
Red Rover - For this outdoor game, the children must form two opposing lines and try to break through the other team's line…
Hound Dog Cake Hunt - The cake is missing and your guests must follow the clues to find it…

Dog Masks - Let your guests make Dog Masks using paper plates. Just cut holes for the eyes, attach an elastic string to each plate, and let the children color the faces, glue on construction paper ears, and wear their masks for a group picture!
Color Your Own Placemat - Print copies of a coloring page (1 for each guest), and write your guests' names on them. After the children color the sheets, mount them on 11"x17" cardstock, and cover them with clear contact paper. Send the pictures home with your guests to use again and again.
Coloring Book - If you would like to have a coloring contest or make each child a coloring book, you'll want to check out the printables below. You can make a personalized coloring book for each child with their name on the front; for added fun, use a coloring picture of a dog as the cover. If the budget permits, GBC bind them; otherwise, just staple the pages together.
