Decorate the Place: It's time to pretty up the place for party time. Blow up some pink, red and white balloons to tape to walls, doors, and the backs of chairs. If you prefer helium balloons, most grocery stores have a helium tank in their floral department and you can have them inflated there.
Make festive garland to hang in doorways, on walls and from corner to corner at the ceiling. Here's how: Cut heart shapes out of paper doilies and red construction paper. Make sure the red hearts are smaller than the doily hearts. Glue the red hearts to the center of the doilies. Thread a piece of white yarn through the tops of the doilies and tie a loose knot at the top of each to keep its place in line. Tie each heart about 3 inches apart.
Create a quick centerpiece out of a coffee can covered in red felt. Decorate the outside of the can with pink and white felt hearts and rim the edge with a strip of lace, ribbon or white felt. Place a block of floral foam, standing up, inside the can. Fill can with sand or clean cat litter, then insert lollipops into the foam for a quick and tasty centerpiece!
If you have Valentines that your child has collected from school and neighborhood friends, tape or glue them to your white plastic or paper tablecloth to showcase them. Use red plastic plates, cups, utensils and napkins to set the table.
Fun Foods: So that your party isn't all sweets, put together some heart-shaped sandwiches! Choose whatever fillings you like. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or cut out the heart with a paring knife.
Fresh red fruits such as apple wedges, strawberries and cherries are great with a pink fruit dip made from an 8–ounce container of yogurt and an 8–ounce package of cream cheese.
To give cookie dough and cake batter a pink tint, add a few drops of red food coloring. Frost cupcakes with pink frosting and decorate with red, white and pink sprinkles, and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make cookies. Decorate with red sugar before baking, or use white frosting and red candies after baking. You can even save the decorating for your guests as a fun activity!
